IDS Day 57: Knight and King of Cups, The Fool

I did a major catch up on my deck study today, and I thought I'd share some since I haven't been posting as many of my IDS entries lately.

Knight of Cups
This knight seems reckless and prideful. His mount is enormous and he doesn't seem to have much control over it. Though the knight looks as if a reign is in his hands, there isn't one there at all--an illusion of control. Meanwhile, the giant cat wanders toward a cliff without seeing it; it's too busy staring at whatever the knight sees.
The castle seems to be in the wrong direction from where the knight is headed. Does he care? Doesn't seem to. He looks like a drunk driver, and sitting upon the red cloak he seems to think nothing bad will happen to him. Be careful silly knight, or bad things just might happen.

(My study of the queen wasn't particularly insightful beyond my interpretations of her in spreads lately, so I'm skipping her.)

King of Cups
The king is in tune with himself--his inner nature and perhaps his more spiritual self. He might also be insane! His eyes seem to point in opposite directions, they are encircled by dark rings, and for heaven's sake he's on a throne in the middle of the sea! Drinking a little too much sea water perhaps. A note to keep in touch with reality while exploring oneself.

He's distracted, thinking/working too hard maybe, and has completely missed the fish staring at him from the water. It matches his necklace, so I wonder if that's what he's out in the ocean to find. I see someone fretting so much over something that they fail to see it right under their nose. Oh look, a rescue party is coming in on the horizon.

0: The Fool
Our piggy friend is so young to embark on his journey. He represents new beginnings...very new. He has much to learn, the first lesson perhaps that of caution. The way he stares upward so obliviously makes me think of the rabbit in 7 of Cups with his head in a daydream. So intent on the sun (Don't stare at it! That's bad for your eyes!) that he doesn't seem to see the giant cliff before him. Then again, maybe he came up here for the view, to see the journey ahead in the warm light of dawn.

He isn't ill prepared either, which suggests to me that he has wisdom already. His cloak is warm, he's packed a knapsack of something, and he brought a companion. The Fool is a romantic dreamer, but he's no idiot. Just a little ignorant, but that's why the quest begins, isn't it? A journey of learning.

From dictionary.com:

In other exciting news, I have officially filled my first tarot journal. Time to break in one of the two new ones I bought in anticipation. :D

  1. You make me laugh! They do look demented, some of these creatures, don't they?!
Don't worry, I'm not dissin' your deck, I like it. I'd get it myself, but I've already bought two more decks. (0 - 4 in two months - I can see how this gets addictive!) x

  2. I usually think they look strung-out or scared, but for some reason the king really looked insane to me last night! I too am guilty of the deck buying trend...

  4. I bought the Lunatic, Deviant Moon, and Fantastical Creatures, and I won the Archeon from tarot4fun's newbie contest.

  5. I like your take on the cards (especially the Knight - he shows up a lot for me, in regards to somebody else).

The King looks mortified to me tonight, like he's had a real "uh-oh" moment. He looks like he's holding his breath, and about to pop. ;)
